Subject Description

    This subject introduces best-practice approaches to the sustainable management of terrestrial landscapes and natural resources in Australia. Lectures provide an overview of selected topics in NRM whilst practicals and field work are used to develop skills in NRM activities and to illustrate the complexities of putting NRM theory into practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • explain the theoretical complexities of managing terrestrial social-ecological systems
  • describe the nature of northern Australian environments, land use practices, social values and institutions influencing terrestrial resource management
  • identify options for addressing terrestrial resource management problems in northern Australia
  • evaluate options for addressing terrestrial management problems using northern Australia as a case study region
