Subject Description

    This subject will foster GSTs' development of the Digital Literacy capability as required in the Graduate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. This subject will develop an understanding of ways to use ICT in secondary education to support students' learning. GSTs will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the relevant issues and strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of technology in teaching and learning. Upon completion of this subject, GSTs will have demonstrated how technology can be used across the secondary curriculum and how students can use technology in the subject areas in which they will teach. GSTs will plan learning experiences that provide secondary students with authentic opportunities to creating solutions, consider sustainable patterns of living and contribute to preferred futures for themselves and others with and through technology.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate an understanding of the affordances and opportunities of technology for teaching and learning and effectively articulate and justify their classroom use of ICT
  • demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the contributions technology can make in supporting a range of differentiated learning opportunities for diverse students
  • use technology, including generic software packages, to manage, operate, investigate, create and communicate
  • evaluate and justify the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of technology in learning and teaching across discipline areas and classroom situations
  • plan learning experiences that provide secondary students in a selected curriculum area with authentic opportunities to apply social and ethical protocols and practices when using technology

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Critical appraisal/review - (50%) - Individual
  • Written > Poster - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > Reflection/reflective task 1 - (40%) - Individual
