ED5967 - Senior Curriculum II

Subject Description

The subject develops GSTs towards the Graduate Teacher Australian Professional Standard requirements in the context of a selected Senior Secondary specialist subject, with special attention to policy influence on curriculum development and enactment, and specific reference to the QCCA Senior Secondary Curriculum (QCAA, 2017). Special focus will be on unit planning, with attention to the integration of ICT for engaging learning and student differentiation and assessment. GSTs will demonstrate the requisite subject specific content and pedagogical content knowledge required for graduate level competent delivery of this curriculum area to Year 12. GSTs will demonstrate, at a developed level, a thorough understanding of a range of pedagogies informed by policy, research and data that influence decision making to support students' learning. GSTs will develop dispositions as reflective practitioners, able to plan units of work, implement and evaluate current national and state curriculum frameworks and policies in education and competencies to effectively and equitably teach subjects to students from diverse backgrounds. Assessment practices examined in ED5966 will be extended in this subject, with a specific focus on the role of moderation to ensure consistent and comparable assessment.

• demonstrate advanced knowledge of the learning processes used by secondary students from diverse backgrounds in learning and ICT tools to facilitate and showcase learning
• demonstrate expert, specialised cognitive and technical skills to plan for issues of access and equity in teaching
• design, implement and evaluate curriculum, assessment and differentiated learning opportunities, to enhance learning outcomes for all students, including those from diverse cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds and with specific learning needs including provision of timely and appropriate feedback to students
• demonstrate dispositions necessary to constructively evaluate various teaching methods, materials and media as they relate to secondary students learning as stipulated in relevant state and national frameworks and policies
