Subject Description

    This subject seeks to position pre-service teachers as classroom leaders working within and across ecological spheres of practice; metacognitive of the impact of their own resilience and well-being on the social sustainability of their classrooms and communities. The subject is implemented through a community of inquiry model and is undertaken through a blended mode of delivery. Successful completion of this subject will enable preservice teachers to work with a critical perspective within schools and broader, community-based, networks of practice to contribute to and manage wellbeing and resilience initiatives within themselves, their classroom and school community.

Learning Outcomes

  • critique the policy base addressing mental health and well-being; with a particular emphasis on policies pertaining to schools and young people
  • develop and foster flexible mindsets, open to ongoing classroom and professional learning
  • analyse and evaluate contemporary research pertaining to leadership of self, the incidence and impact of mental health within the Australian community broadly and with particular emphasis on evaluating the evidence of impact of selected initiatives for schools and young people
  • develop critical knowledge and understanding of the theoretical base underpinning contemporary notions of resilience and well-being with a particular emphasis on evidence pertaining to the work of teachers, schools and young people

  • Written > Self-reflection task - (10%) - Individual
