Subject Description

    This subject consolidates the understanding of Chinese obtained in CI1101. Students will build on previously established foundations of Modern Standard Chinese. Speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Chinese will be developed further and attention to the structures and patterns of the language will be enhanced. Students will further their understanding and engagement with various aspects of Chinese culture, customs and society as well as issues of globalisation through studying spoken and written language texts.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate extended elementary listening, and speaking, and elementary reading, and writing skills in Chinese
  • employ elementary and intermediate structures and particular grammatical functions of Chinese
  • communicate competently in Chinese in speaking on selected topics of daily living and modern importance
  • consider the sociocultural dimensions of Chinese use
