Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to basic mathematical concepts that are applied to to academic situations such as unit conversion and statistical analysis. Topics include basic operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurement, graphs, and measures of central tendency. The delivery of the subject focuses on using these mathematical concepts and techniques to solve real problems.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate the ability to apply mathematical skills to a range of practical life skills and academic contexts
  • demonstrate the use of multiplication, division, decimals, percentages and a scientific calculator
  • demonstrate basic algebraic concepts such as solving equations and the application of formulae
  • use tables and graphs for representing statistical data (i.e. scatterplots, bar graphs and histograms)

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (45%) - Individual
  • Assignments - (30%) - Individual
  • On line Quizzes - (25%) - Individual
