Subject Description

    The subject is designed to introduce students to various information technologies to enable them to engage and navigate both inside the James Cook University environment and in society in general. The subject actively encourages interactive engagement while it provides a range of opportunities to develop skills in technological literacy.

Learning Outcomes

  • develop and apply techniques such as Powerpoint for tutorial presentations
  • identify and navigate the technology environment of James Cook University including LearnJCU
  • explore elements of online learning including how to conduct basic literature searches including Tropicat and the World Wide Web
  • develop skills in accessing and producing assessment documents
  • examine referencing styles including APA

Subject Assessment

  • PowerPoint Presentation - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Action plan - (30%) - Individual
  • Participation > Online participation - (10%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration - (30%) - Individual
