Subject Description

    Detailed design, planning, research, and writing of a thesis of between 18,000 and 22,500 words (or equivalent creative output) on a topic to be decided independently, but in consultation with an academic supervisor. The project should demonstrate advanced graduate level disciplinary knowledge, high conceptual and research skills and familiarity with appropriate theoretical material.

Learning Outcomes

  • interpret appropriate theory and methods at an advanced level
  • design a research project of an appropriate scope for an Honours thesis
  • appraise the ethical and practical implications of research in a discipline
  • integrate advanced technical skills and theoretical knowledge to develop new understanding in a given field
  • compose a thesis (or equivalent creative output) according to the requirements of the BA Honours and discipline expectations which demonstrates clarity of style and coherence of argument

Subject Assessment

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.
