Subject Description
- This subject builds on the principles and concepts of the role of microbes in aquatic animal disease introduced in second year in the subject MI2031:03 (Marine Microbiology). Aquatic Microbial Pathobiology aims to cover the "disease" anatomy of the major groups of aquatic animals, the major disease causing microbes, particularly in aquaculture, introduce the concepts of disease in populations and understand the options for control.
Learning Outcomes
- plan a wild fish kill investigation
- advise on disease prevention
- recommend appropriate action following disease outbreak
- research various sources and recommend appropriate samples to submit for disease investigation
- discuss the role of aquaculture and the suitability of aquacultured product for food security and public health
- plan a farm visit in order to investigate a disease outbreak
- research various sources and outline the main infectious and non-infectious determinants of disease likely to be present in selected aquacultured species
