Subject Description

    This subject gives students an authentic industry work experience to facilitate the connection between theory and practice, and to heighten awareness of issues associated with professional practice in their chosen field. Immersion in a professional work environment will also support reflection on, and further development of, the graduate attributes that contribute to success transition to work after graduation. These placements will be allocated by the university on a selective basis. Students will undertake a minimum of 100 hours of supervised work in an approved industry workplace related to their field of study, with a focus on tasks and activities that are relevant to their specialisation and skill level.

Learning Outcomes

  • independently and critically reflect on and assess one's own capabilities and performance, and make use of one's experience and feedback as appropriate, to support personal and professional development
  • describe structure, capabilities, and responsibilities of various roles in relevant projects, workplaces, and work forces
  • effectively communicate, both written and oral, with professionals and community members
  • demonstrate relevance of the codes of ethics and regulatory frameworks governing the relevant industry through the exercise of independent ethical judgement and analysis of industry scenarios
  • work in a team within a professional environment; and exhibit self-management skills and pro-active demeanour
  • critically review and apply concepts, theories, and standards for professional practice
