Subject Description

    This subject is designed to introduce students to the history, principles, values and theory of health promotion and to the processes of health promotion program planning, design, and evaluation. Students will learn the how health promotion has evolved to where it is today and will gain an understanding of health promotion priorities in the Australian and International context. Frameworks for health promotion action will be introduced to allow students to understand the scope that is covered by health promotion.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply health promotion frameworks to develop strategies to address contemporary health issues
  • critically analyse the broad influences on health including social, physical, political and economic influences
  • critically analyse the evolution of health promotion and where it fits within the broader public health context
  • articulate the underlying values and principles of health promotion
  • examine and critically appraise the process of planning, designing and evaluating a health promotion programs

  • Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 2 - (50%) - Individual
