SY4017 - Classical Social Theory

Subject Description

This subject allows students to specialise in their major discipline through advanced study of both theory and methods. In the subject, research design, and theoretical perspectives within their chosen discipline will be examined and applied to case studies in contemporary society. They will also have the chance to delve into theoretical perspectives on their discipline through an intensive reading and discussion program. Students will be able to use this knowledge to further their own research

Learning Outcomes

• design an appropriate research project, including research questions, theoretical framework and methodological approaches within the discipline
• evaluate a body of literature in a specific field of the discipline
• critique a broad range of theoretical approaches to the discipline
• justify the application of particular theories to case study examples

• Written > Literature review - (20%) - Individual
• Oral > Podcast - (20%) - Individual
• Participation > Online participation - (20%) - Individual
