SP1003 - Communication for Sport and Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology (Clinical)

Subject Description

This subject introduces students to the theory and practice of communication for sport and exercise science and clinical exercise physiology professionals. Written, practical and verbal (oral) skills will be developed. Verbal and non-verbal skills for effective listening, interpersonal and group communication will be explored. Students will develop information technology skills and writing skills and the process of tailoring communication for different audiences. These skills are essential for a career in sport and exercise science or clinical exercise physiology.

Learning Outcomes

• find, critically review and cite scholarly sources of information that conform to the norms of academic writing and referencing
• reflect on communication skills used in a sporting or exercise environment
• use effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills when presenting to an audience
• introduce effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills that ensure interactions with clients and colleagues are professional and ethical

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit the non-weighted placement evaluation; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; participate in at least 80% of scheduled classes.
