Subject Description

    This subject provides the foundation theoretical and professional skills necessary for competent speech pathology practice in the areas of voice, sensorimotor and anatomical difference and disorders across the lifespan. The aetiology and nature of these differences and disorders will be explored, including physiological, perceptual, acoustic and psychosocial aspects. Assessment and intervention approaches will be explored with respect to current theories and evidence-based practice principles.

Learning Outcomes

  • describe the contribution of voice, sensorimotor and anatomical difference and disorder to communication and swallowing
  • describe and justify evidence-based speech pathology assessment and intervention approaches for individuals with voice, sensorimotor and anatomical difference and disorders, taking into account psychosocial and contextual factors

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; pass every assessment item; participate in at least 80% of scheduled classes.
