PY5404 - Research Methods for Project Planning and Evaluation

Subject Description

The purpose of this subject is to introduce students to research issues relevant to project planning within applied psychology. Students will learn how to design research projects with a focus on how to generate appropriate and testable ideas, develop ethical research protocols, recruit appropriate participant samples, and collect data using various research approaches and methods commonly employed by psychology researchers. Students will develop written skills in relation to the evaluation of research.

Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate knowledge of approaches to research design and evaluation in psychology
• Formulate and apply professional judgement and problem-solving skills to address research questions in psychological science
• Critically interpret and convey research findings that are drawn from non-experimental and experimental data

Subject Assessment

• Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (10%) - Individual
• Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (30%) - Individual
• Written > Literature review - (40%) - Individual
• Written > Test/Quiz 2 - (20%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties, and attempt and submit all assessments.
