Subject Description

    In this subject, students will gain hands on practice at tailoring and delivering a variety evidence-based interventions across the lifespan, as appropriate to cultural contexts. Main therapies to be covered in this subject include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. Students will participate in interactive learning opportunities such as role plays and case studies to apply their knowledge and skills in preparation for future placement. Reflexive practice opportunities will be a focus in this subject to assist with the development of lifelong learning skills and personal and professional development.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply and justify advanced psychological knowledge in the formulation of, and development of treatment plans for, psychological disorders
  • select and tailor developmentally and culturally appropriate evidence-based interventions
  • demonstrate skills in the delivery of evidence- based interventions for client groups of varying age, gender, culture, and socioeconomic status
  • reflect critically and respectfully on the practice of ones self to develop quality practice, and to plan ongoing professional learning

  • Video of CBT skills demonstration 15%; Written critique and reflection 15% - (30%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Pass requirements: pass every assessment item; participate in all scheduled classes; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
