PY4112 - Ethics for Research and Professional and Evidence Based Practice

Subject Description

Psychology as a discipline and a profession is firmly founded upon the model of the scientist/practitioner. In this subject, students will explore the principles that underpin Evidence-Based Practice in the profession and how this translates to professional practice. Key considerations include the role of ethical behaviour, codes of ethics and competencies, and the social, historical, professional and cultural factors that influence the science and practice of psychology with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Learning Outcomes

• apply the principles of evidence-based practice to contemporary issues in psychology and psychological practice
• develop and appraise a learning portfolio to summarize key strengths in response to career opportunities
• apply the APS Code of Ethics and APS Ethical Guidelines to professional psychological practice

• Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
• Participation > Class participation - Individual
• Written > Case report 1 - (40%) - Individual
• Performance/Practice/Product > Portfolio - (20%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in all workshop classes; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
