Subject Description

    This subject is the first of two clinical practice subjects which are designed to set the foundation for learning experiences within health settings. This subject is made up of three 5 week placements in different discipline areas selected from the mandatory placements of Acute Care/Cardiorespiratory, Neuro/Rehabilitation, Musculo-skeletal Physiotherapy, Rural and non-core. The total of 15 weeks of supervised clinical experience will be conducted in clinical settings in a range of public and private health care facilities throughout Queensland and interstate.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate effective nonverbal, verbal and written communication skills with patients, carers and other health professionals
  • demonstrate application of evidence based practice in the assessment and management of disease, illness and injury across the lifespan and in a range of settings
  • demonstrate appropriate professional behavior in clinical situations including adherence to ethical standards and legal requirements
  • demonstrate the ability to safely and competently plan and perform physiotherapy assessment analysis, intervention, evaluation and planning processes

Subject Assessment

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; pass every assessment item; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied; achieve satisfactory/pass for the portfolio tasks; attend all scheduled clinical placements.
