Subject Description

The Honours in Physical Sciences program is intended for students whose undergraduate major is not in Physics, but who have a major in another science (or related) discipline and want to carry out a project where mathematical and physical techniques can be applied to that area. As part of the program, students will need to acquire skills in mathematical and physics that are appropriate to the project. Most students will also be directed to study subjects within the School at an upper undergraduate or postgraduate level in order to obtain these skills. Students eligible to do Physics Honours will be encouraged to take the Physics Honours option.

Learning Outcomes

  • ability to carry out a substantial piece of research and write a dissertation
  • ability to formulate and solve research problems
  • to understand theoretical concepts in a broad range of topics which give background to the research project
