Subject Description

    This subject builds on PC5201 and continues to further develop the technical, clinical, personal, professional and management skills of the pharmacist and prepares them for independent clinical practice. The subject prepares the pharmacist for the daily practice of pharmacy in a variety of clinical settings and hones their skills in a number of areas. Topics covered include clinical therapeutics, pharmaceutical care and care planning, adherence and deprescribing, management of minor ailments and financial and human resource management. Skills developed include clinical problem solving, risk management, professionalism and dealing with ethical and legal dilemmas. The subject is offered as an external subject using blended learning methods. Students will be required to attend one on-campus workshop.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an ability to apply the principals of good dispensing practice, extemporaneous dispensing and patient counselling in a suitable contemporary clinical setting
  • Demonstrate an ability to apply the principals of pharmaceutical care and therapeutics to a variety of clinical situations to improve clinical outcomes for patients
  • Demonstrate an ability to apply the principals of financial and human resource management theory, business law and ethics in a suitable contemporary clinical setting
  • To meet the intern competencies required of a registered Australian pharmacist

Assumed Knowledge:  As this is a core level 5 subject in the BPharm(Hons)/MPharm pathway, students will be expected to have fully completed the BPharm (Hons) program or equivalent
