PC5005 - Safety and Quality in Pharmaceutical Practice

Subject Description

The focus of this subject is on the quality use of medicines, medication safety and distribution as it relates to clinical pharmaceutical practice. This subject will extend the theoretical knowledge and clinical skills of registered pharmacists in quality use of medicines and distribution services. It aims to equip students with the skills and expertise to develop quality use of medicine protocols, patient specific and non patient specific distribution as well as create networks and collaborate with other health professionals in a range of health settings to achieve the best therapeutic outcomes for patients.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate an advanced depth of knowledge in quality use of medicines, including medication safety and apply this to the development and review of treatment procedures/protocols
• demonstrate advanced skills to independently manage increasingly complex issues of medication safety
• demonstrate advanced knowledge in patient and non patient specific distribution services
• demonstrate an ability to collaborate with other health professionals and specialised services in quality use of medicines and best available evidence to optimise therapeutic outcomes for patients specific clinical needs

Subject Assessment

• Oral > Presentation 1 - (30%)
• Case Study - (30%)
