PC4404 - Advanced Pharmacy Practice 3

Subject Description

This capstone subject will consolidate the knowledge, skills, behaviours and performance outcomes pharmacy students are required to demonstrate for achievement of pharmacy practice capabilities. Students will be required to integrate therapeutic, scientific and professional knowledge, in the consideration of contemporary professional pharmacy practices, including a focus on rural, regional and remote Australia. Students will apply their knowledge, skills and behaviours across a range of activities and supervised clinical pharmacy placement, demonstrating professional competence and a highly developed understanding of professional roles and responsibilities of a pharmacist.

Learning Outcomes

• Integrate an understanding of the current legislative, ethical, pharmacoeconomic and management issues relevant to contemporary pharmacy practice and apply these to professionalism in practice
• Review and recommend strategies to effectively manage social and cultural issues pertinent to the Australian healthcare context
• Assess and formulate appropriate and effective therapeutic actions relating to patient pharmaceutical needs, managing all principles of quality use of medicines
• Revise theory and practice in experiential learning settings and reflect on professional pharmacy practices in the Australian context

Subject Assessment

• Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (30%) - Individual
• Performance/Practice/Product > Portfolio - (20%) - Individual
• Performance/Practice/Product > Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) - (50%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Compulsory residential attendance is required for successful completion of this subject. 6 week on-campus teaching block, (Residential Assessment Week and Semester break prior to Placement)

Assumed Knowledge:  As this is a core level 4 subject in the BPharm(Hons)/MPharm pathway, students will be expected to have completed all core level 1, 2 and 3 subjects.
