Subject Description

    This subject is designed to introduce the Philosophy in the Arts in a manner which is applied to practice. In the subject, the nature of aesthetic experience and reasons why the arts are of value to us will be examined. The aim of the weekly tutorial and practical sessions will be to discuss theories of art/design and to reflect on how they may inform creative practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • describe theories of creative arts that explain the value of the arts to society
  • create original works of art and analyse theories of art that relate to the aims of the work
  • demonstrate analytical and reflective thinking in written communication

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Poster - (30%) - Individual
  • Oral > Interview - (20%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Creative work - (50%) - Individual
