Available to graduate students with a degree in Public Health, Medical, Veterinary or related sciences. Other appropriately trained graduates may enrol at the discretion of the Academic Head of Veterinary Science.

Subject Description

    Available to public health, medical, veterinary and related sciences graduate students. The subject is designed to give a solid foundation in applied biostatistics that can be used in medical and veterinary practice and upon which further studies in various medical, veterinary and related science disciplines can be built. The subject is delivered in external mode allowing students to complete the subject off-campus.

Learning Outcomes

  • analyse and interpret evidence based information to inform clinical practice and research methodology
  • analyse medical and veterinary data using basic exploratory and inferential statistical methods that include confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, chi-square procedures, regression and correlation, t-test and analysis of variance
  • differentiate between the use of parametric and non-parametric tests

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (60%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Scenario-based learning activity - (40%) - Individual
