Credit points:03
Year:2021
Student Contribution Band:Band 2
Prerequisites:EG1011
Administered by:College of Science and Engineering

Subject Description

Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics: Fluid properties. Fluid statics. Dynamics of fluid flow. Euler, Bernoulli and energy equations. Dimensional analysis. Fundamentals of Thermodynamics: Thermodynamic properties. Steam tables. Close and open systems. First and Second Law of thermodynamics. Elementary thermodynamic analysis of gas and vapour cycle.

Learning Outcomes

  • describe fluid properties, fluid statics and dynamics
  • explain the principles of conservation of mass and energy, the limits of energy conversion and energy efficiency
  • employ Euler and Bernoulli equations, the first and second law of thermodynamics, and the steam tables to solve a range of problems involving fluids
  • analyse errors and report laboratory practical measurements in a professional manner
