LA2019 - Torts A - Specific Torts

Subject Description

    In this subject students will be introduced to the nature of the law of torts and to a number of discrete torts including trespass to the person, land and goods, nuisance, defamation and other miscellaneous intentional torts. The subject will allow students to continue to develop problem solving skills and other technical skills relevant to real world legal practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain some of the concepts that underpin the law of torts
  • Explain the principles and rules relevant to particular areas of the law of torts in Australia, including trespass, nuisance, defamation and other intentional torts
  • Identify possible tortious issues in legal problems, and explain how the law of torts would apply to resolve those issues
  • Develop a written outline of argument in relation to a legal problem
  • Collaborate effectively to resolve authentic legal problems and scenarios

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (60%) - Individual
  • Written > Problem task - (40%) - Group
