Subject Description

    This subject is designed to provide students with academic skills required to improve writing, speaking, reading and listening. The subject is designed for students who have basic knowledge in expressing their ideas in an academic structure. Through this subject, they will enhance their abilities to write, speak, listen and read as the contents include rephrasing, crediting the source, essay structures and organisation, presentation skills and learning and reading techniques.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate the ability to write and speak using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • analyse and write a literary analysis exploring themes, characters and plots of a given text or movie
  • assess information critically to deliver a news presentation using the Cause & Effect or Compare & Contrast essay models
  • comprehend and analyse given text
  • extract pertinent information from given text to write a summary

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (30%) - Individual
  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Written > Abstract - (20%) - Individual
  • Online MCQ Grammar, Vocabulary & Listening Quizzes Week 4, 7 & 9 - (30%) - Individual
