Subject Description

    This subject aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as hands-on experience using a GIS to address a real-world environmental issue.

Learning Outcomes

  • Define key concepts in geography, mapping and remote sensing including scale, co-ordinate systems and spectral signatures
  • Identify key issues and limitations in geography, mapping and remote sensing
  • Analyse spatial data and create effective maps using industry standard GIS software
  • Work in teams to collect spatial data answering a real-world question and communicate the findings effectively

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (40%) - Individual
  • on-course work - (60%) - Group & Individual
