Subject Description

    System Modelling: Linear, non-linear, time invariant, regulator and servomechanisms. Modelling system dynamics by transfer functions, block diagrams, root locus, Bode and Nyquist plots.System Response: Transient response of second order systems. Steady state response, steady state errors, frequency response.Stability: simple stability tests, Routh Hurwitz, root locus, Bode and Nyquist.Controller Design: Performance specification, PID, lead and lag compensators.

  • demonstrate a competence in assessing and improving the dynamic performance of continuous time systems using classical control systems analysis and design techniques

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (60%) - Individual
  • On-Course assessment, some of which may be invigilated - (40%) - Individual
