Subject Description

Appropriately guiding clients in their career journey requires in-depth knowledge of a broad range of labour market and world of work trends. As such, this subject will address the topics of current and predicted labour market trends, as well as the impacts on career development and individual management. Specifically, students will develop a thorough understanding of labour market movements and the impacts on industry, the job market and capability requirements to inform targeted career counselling. Students will examine the current world of work and future work trends, with detailed analysis of employment and career impacts for practical applications.

Learning Outcomes

• critically analyse current and predicted labour market trends with application to the career development field
• evaluate the potential impact of labour market trends and industry employment structures on career development, employment, and employment skill sets
• apply knowledge of current and predicted changes to the world of work in relation to local and global influences relevant to career counselling
• integrate key labour market information into career development for diverse clients, across education, employment and community settings
