Subject Description

    This subject draws on foundation knowledge of assessment of and for learning developed in Year 2 and 3 curriculum based subjects. In this subject, pre-service teachers look at the broad range of data and evidence available to teachers and carers to inform planning for learning and development at a class, cluster, or whole school/centre level. Sources of data and evidence will be critically scrutinized to inform choices of data/evidence and knowledge of sophisticated analysis and synthesis of multiple sources will be developed. This will include knowledge of moderation procedures (developed and applied) to ensure that issues impacting on consistent application and interpretation of standards is understood. Attention will be given to requirements for recording and storing information securely and using information ethically and within legislative and regulatory requirements. Finally, pre-service teachers will use data to communicate with a range of stakeholders, including parents and carers, regarding the progression of student learning.

Learning Outcomes

  • collect, record and effectively analyse single sources of data and synthesise analysis of multiple data and evidence sources within ethical, legislative and regulatory requirements
  • demonstrate knowledge of processes such as moderation to ensure the consistent interpretation and application of standards and inform pedagogical decision-making
  • reflect on and communicate understandings of data to diverse stakeholders, including colleagues and parents
  • demonstrate knowledge, policy and research�of effective assessment and practices of data usage

Subject Assessment

  • Sample Report Comments. Presentation (10%), letter/memorandum (10%) - (20%) - Individual

  • Collecting and analysing data. Professional conversation (15%), reflection/reflective task (25%) - (40%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Students must pass all assessment to pass the subject. Resubmission may be permitted for one assessment task only. The completion of the required consecutive 15 days of Professional Experience and submission of a Satisfactory grading - Minimum of Developing Adequately in all descriptors on the Professional Experience Report is a requirement to pass this subject. Attendance at Professional Experience Briefings is an essential component of Professional Experience preparation.
