Subject Description

    This subject focusses on how to plan, implement and evaluate teaching, assessment, and feedback strategies, and interpret student data, to facilitate successful student learning in Subject English in the Primary Years. It examines current National and State curriculum documents, policies and frameworks relevant to the Primary Years - with a particular focus on the Australian Curriculum: English. It focusses upon the planning and implementation of reflective teaching and learning cycles, as well as, the interpretation of student data to inform evidence-based pedagogical practice in Subject English. This subject also focuses upon differentiated learning in the context of Subject English in the Primary Years. Some of the learning in this subject will be developed from studies introduced in ED1421

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • identify and apply a range of teaching, assessment and feedback strategies to facilitate effective student learning in Subject English
  • interpret student data to evaluate student learning and modify teaching practice to ensure effective evidence-based practice in Subject English
  • demonstrate the capacity to identify, evaluate and apply a range of strategies for providing timely, appropriate feedback to students and parents/carers about levels of achievement in Subject English
  • articulate a well-developed understanding of pedagogic principles and practices in relation to Subject English and of the Australian Curriculum: English

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Proposal - (20%) - Individual
  • Oral > Podcast - (30%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Portfolio - (50%) - Individual
