Subject Description

In this prosthodontics subject students will develop the skills to handle materials used in the manufacture of dentures, crowns and other restorative components that are constructed in the laboratory for patient use. The manufacturing process will be demonstrated for the more complex casting and crown production, but students will be expected to become skilled in the construction, processing and fitting of a full and partial denture. A detailed understanding of occlusion and dental materials will be required. Students will also re-enforce and expand their restorative skills in the simulation setting. The expanded skills will include treatment of deciduous teeth.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop a sound knowledge of occlusion and the construction and fitting of dentures
  • Demonstrate competency in handling materials in restorative dentistry
  • Understand the preparation and manufacturing processes for porcelain crowns, inlays and other dental castings
  • Continue to expand the performance (within the simulated environment) of operative dentistry procedures, including the development of skills in the restoration of deciduous teeth
  • Understand the materials and processes associated with basic removable prosthodontics
