Subject Description
- The ecology, systematics, structure and function of terrestrial arthropods including the insects, arachnids and myriapods.Topics include evolution and systematics of terrestrial arthropods; structure and function of insect systems; biological control and integrated pest management; collecting, curating and identifying terrestrial arthropods.
Learning Outcomes
- to appreciate the diversity of terrestrial arthropods
- to correctly identify and curate terrestrial arthropods
- to know the variety of techniques used to collect terrestrial arthropods
- to understand the evolutionary relationships between the major groups of terrestrial arthropods
- to understand the theory behind biological control and integrated pest management
