Available to graduate students with a degree in Public Health, Medical, Veterinary or related sciences. Other appropriately trained graduates may enrol at the discretion of the Academic Head of Veterinary Science.

Subject Description

    This subject is designed for veterinary and animal science professionals to develop a detailed research proposal that can be used for their research or funding proposals. The student carries out an extensive literature review on a selected topic and uses this to justify the project proposal. The student to deliver a presentation of their research proposal and submit a research protocol.

Learning Outcomes

  • identify benefits to the research
  • create a detailed research proposal which includes a review of scientific literature on a particular veterinary or animal science topic
  • formulate a set of hypothesis, a problem statement and research objectives
  • apply the correct methodology for achieving the objectives of a veterinary or animal research project
  • create a budget for a research project
  • respond to contractual issues related to research proposals
  • apply appropriate data storage methods
  • recognise issues related to authorship and the defining of research outputs
  • identify ethical issues pertaining to veterinary and animal health projects

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > Presentations - (10%)
  • Invigilated > Thesis - (90%)
