Available to graduate students with a degree in Veterinary Science. Other appropriately trained graduates may enrol at the discretion of the Academic Head of Veterinary Science.

Subject Description

    A review of current trends in reproductive physiology and biology of domestic animals used for food and fibre production with emphasis on tropical conditions. Consideration is also given to management procedures to achieve optimal reproductive rates.

Learning Outcomes

  • explain and demonstrate knowledge of reproductive physiology and biology as they apply to domestic animals and how these processes can be disrupted and reduce productivity or manipulated to improve productivity
  • critically evaluate experimental data, scientific reports and theories in reproductive physiology and biology
  • describe a range of management practices that can be used to optimise fertility within tropical and temperate environments
  • be able to assess a sample of semen

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > End of semester exam - (55%)
  • Assignments and Presentations - (45%)
