SL4004 - Speech Pathology Practice 5

Enrolment is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Speech Pathology IHCAP Program and the Bachelor of Speech Pathology Honours Programs.

Subject Description

Students will complete clinical placements with minimal supervision and guidance from clinical educators to achieve independent practice. Students will work directly with clients with activity limitations and participation restrictions related to speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and multi-modal communication. Students will assess, plan and deliver clinical services for clients, as well as provide community education.

• demonstrate professional entry level competency in clinical management of disorders of speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and multi-modal communication
• demonstrate professional entry level competency in communications of observations and clnical findings to clients and other
• demonstrate professional entry level professional and ethical behaviour appropriate to the policies and procedures of the clinical placement setting and the profession of speech pathology
• demonstrate and reflect on professional entry levels of competnce across all professional units and occupational competencies as outlined by CBOS 2011

Subject Assessment

• Assessment as follows:
• Clinical competencies - assessment of skills in clinical practice using COMPASS (assessment tool)
• Clinical viva (a standard evaluation of student clinical problem solving and skill development)
• Portfolio of clinical experience - a collection of material demonstrating developing competency within the CBOS 2011 Framework

Special Assessment Requirements

This subject will be marked as a pass/fail. Students must successfully pass all individual assessment items in order to pass the subject. Students must complete all clinical placements hours and attend all scheduled meetings. Students must successfully complete all assessment requirements and placement related activities.
