Subject Description
- This subject will provide the foundation theoretical and professional skills necessary for competent practice in the assessment and treatment/management of language impairment in children and adolescents. This subject will also explore aetiological factors, models, and processes contributing to language differences and impairment. Implications across linguistic and cultural contexts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations, will be considered. Assessment and intervention methods will be explored with respect to current theories and evidence-based practice principles. The effects of language impairments on a child's activity and participation will be explored.

- describe and justify appropriate child language assessment approaches
- analyse and interpret child language assessment data and determine appropriate intervention goals
- formulate and justify intervention plans and approaches based in sound theoretical and evidence- based principles
- explain the impact of language difference and impairment on a child's activity and participation

Special Assessment Requirements
Students must achieve at least 50% in each individual assessment item, and achieve at least 50% overall to pass the subject. Students must attend and actively participate in at least 80% of all scheduled classes to pass the subject.
