Subject Description

    This is the first placement subject within the postgraduate clinical psychology curriculum at JCU. In this clinical placement subject, students will participate in class activities designed to enable them to practice the application of clinical knowledge and skills to clinical contexts, prior to undertaking placement. The placement will include at least 300 hr of practice, with ongoing guidance provided by supervisors as students demonstrate application of clinical and professional skills to provide effective, evidenced-based assessment and interventions for clients. Students will participate in feedback processes to develop their ongoing learning plans and self-reflexive practice, and will participate in supervised case consultations.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate ownership of ongoing professional learning as evidenced by critical self- reflexive practice, engagement with and use of feedback, and the development of personalized learning plans and objectives
  • expertly communicate with clients, families, community and organisational representatives, and other health professionals
  • application of clinical and professional skills to provide effective, evidence-based assessments and interventions for clients of varying context

Subject Assessment

  • Evaluation form: Attainment of clinical and professional competencies as listed in the Placement A evaluation form; plus Absence of any black flags associated with professional or clinical practice
  • Self-evaluation form: Satisfactory submission of completed mid-placement and end-placement review self-evaluation forms
  • Log of hours: Completion of at least 300 hr of practice in accordance with APAC Standards, signed by the supervisor(s)
  • Professional portfolio: Completed placement portfolio with satisfactory achievement in the case reports and presentations

Special Assessment Requirements

Students must pass every assessment item in order to pass this subject. Students must attend 100% of all classes or submit required makeup work.
