Subject Description

Building on concepts covered in PC1101, this subject introduces students to ethical issues in professional practice and explores management practices relevant to pharmacy. The scientific basis of solid and liquid dosage form design will be covered, including packaging, labelling, transportation and storage requirements of pharmaceuticals. The role of complementary medicines in pharmacy will also be introduced. Students will further develop skills in extemporaneous dispensing including equipment, calculations and techniques in the production of pharmaceutical formulations. Students will also be introduced to basic pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and consider their application to pharmacy practice. Students will also apply their knowledge to extemporaneous dispensing, aseptic processing and a two-day observational placement in community pharmacy.
