Subject Description

    This subject provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the principles and concepts of quantitative research methods. It focuses in detail on some common quantitative approaches and techniques, including survey and questionnaire design, introduction to statistical software SPSS, basics of parametric and non-parametric data analysis and hypothesis testing, and presenting outcomes from statistical analysis of research data.

Learning Outcomes

  • Summarise findings of quantitative data analysis to generate original knowledge
  • Appraise the broad range of quantitative methods applicable to research in health and explain how they impact on the design and conduct of quantitative research
  • Devise research questions suitable for quantitative research
  • Synthesise and analyse primary data collected from quantitative research
