Subject Description

    This subject extends students' knowledge of concepts of pathophysiology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Students progress from their understanding of wellness to examine concepts of disease and further develop their skills in health assessment in respect of identified body systems; endocrine, gastrointestinal, reproductive and neurological. Application of knowledge and skills in this subject maintains a focus on patient-centred care and the Registered nurse standards for practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • utilise focused health assessment to identify variations from normal parameters
  • apply knowledge of the pathophysiology of the endocrine, gastrointestinal, reproductive, integumentary and neurological systems in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care
  • apply the Registered Nurse standards for practice in the provision of evidence-based nursing care
  • apply principles of patient-centred care and diversity in the provision of nursing care in practice settings
  • relate principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics to the management of people experiencing endocrine, gastrointestinal, reproductive, integumentary and neurological disorders and/or mental illness

Special Assessment Requirements

Examinations may be scheduled outside the regular University examination period - refer to NM Year Planner. Students must: 1) Complete and submit all assessment items; 2) Attend 100% of clinical labs or submit required makeup work; 3) Achieve a satisfactory grade for professional portfolio submission; 4) Achieve a satisfactory grade for Professional Experience Placement; 5) Achieve a minimum score of 50% in the formal examination; and 6) Achieve an overall cumulative score of 50%.
