Subject Description

    In this subject students will identify the scope and boundaries of the professional role. The culture of the contemporary healthcare environment is examined as is the role of critical thinking and reflection as strategies for developing resilience. This subject expands students' understanding of research evidence and the importance of evidence translation.

Learning Outcomes

  • identify the scope and boundaries of the role of the nurse and midwife in contemporary Australian practice
  • explore the concept of resilience within the culture of contemporary healthcare
  • describe characteristics of critical and reflective practice
  • critically evaluate research evidence and methods of translation to practice

Subject Assessment

  • Non-Invigilated > Essays - (40%)
  • Poster - (40%)
  • Quiz - (20%)

Special Assessment Requirements

Students will receive progressive feedback on their learning over the course of the subject processes such as via in-class communication, critical thinking activities, and formal feedback provided on their main assignment. Students must complete and submit all assessment items; attend 80% of tutorials or submit make up work (internal students) and obtain an overall (cumulative) mark of 50%.
