Subject Description

    This subject introduces the student to the key legal and ethical obligations of Nurses and Midwives.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate knowledge of the main features of the ethical traditions influencing nursing and midwifery
  • critically evaluate clinical practice with reference to ethical principles
  • identify the main provisions of codes of ethics that govern the practice of nursing and midwifery in Australia
  • outline the Australian legal system and the role of each part
  • demonstrate knowledge of the law as it applies to nursing and midwifery in Australia in general, and Queensland in particular

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > End of semester exam - (50%)
  • Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (50%)
