Subject Description
- Telling stories with images is an age-old practice because visual stories are a powerfully direct way of conveying information, ideas and culture. Historically, much of art has been narrative, that is, depicted stories from myth, legend, religion, history or literature. Today this trend continues in news, documentary, advertising, and exhibited works. Narrative perspectives of the artist, the audience and the visual form itself will be examined to aid your understanding of the visual culture around you and your role as a maker in its creation. How do images, objects, spaces and exhibitions 'tell stories' with or without accompanying words? Students are encouraged to develop their ideas through sourcing, processing and displaying of images in narrative contexts.
Learning Outcomes
- apply the theory underpinning a range of digital media workflows in contemporary media arts
- communicate using the language of contemporary art digital media workflows
- use practical skills in still image, moving image, intermedia, sound and design workflows
- develop skills in self directed-learning effectively
Subject Assessment
- Invigilated > Quizzes or tests - (25%)

- Visual Narrative project - (50%)
