MO1020 - Orthoses for the Upper Limbs

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

Subject Description

This module builds rural generalist knowledge and skills in orthotic service provision for consumers living in rural and remote communities who experience upper limb conditions. Participants will enhance and apply their knowledge and skills in assessment, clinical reasoning, orthotic fabrication and consumer education. Participants are responsible for ensuring they are practicing in accordance with the regulatory instruments of their specific allied health profession, within their own personal scope of practice and experience level and in accordance with the policies of their employer.

Learning Outcomes

• outline the scope of the rural generalist in best practice orthotic intervention as it relates to the assessment, treatment and management of upper limb conditions in a multi-disciplinary context
• communicate a complex knowledge of the principles and clinical reasoning of orthotic intervention to both expert and consumer audiences
• apply clinical reasoning and skill in the fabrication of basic static orthoses or casting for common upper limb conditions commonly seen in rural and remote communities

Subject Assessment

• Assessments 1) Presentation - Fabrication Demonstration and Consumer Education Resource (must pass). 2) Plan - Intervention (must pass)
