ML4301 - Clinical Biochemistry 1

Subject Description

This subject introduces the student to the clinical chemistry laboratory. The student will be led through fundamental issues of spectrophotometric analysis, quality assurance, basic technical skills and laboratory manual preparation. Organ system function will be reviewed with a focus on the methods required for the determination of disorders and the clinical interpretation of results.

• demonstrate an integrated theoretical and technical knowledge of quality assurance application and interpretation
• apply recognized methods and tools of clinical biochemistry in a clinical/medical investigative context
• reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes, in order to plan and implement ongoing personal and professional development needs, relevant to clinical biochemistry and working as a professional medical laboratory scientist

• Invigilated > End of semester exam - (50%)
• Invigilated > Other exams - (25%)
• Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (25%)
