Subject Description

    Knowledge of advanced manufacturing engineering and technology for a wide spectrum of materials, material selection in engineering and areas of emerging technologies. Topics covered include precision machining processes, advanced machining processes, rapid prototyping and freeform fabrication; micro-fabrication, nano-fabrication and medical manufacturing; materials selection - the basics and case studies; process selection - case studies; materials and the environment.

  • understanding common knowledge of advanced manufacturing engineering and technology
  • understanding general principles for materials selection in engineering

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > End of semester exam - (50% - 70%)
  • On-Course assessment, some of which may be invigilated - (30% - 50%)
