LB5525 - Conflict Analysis

Subject Description

Conflict analysis is the first step towards the effective management and resolution of conflicts. This subject equips students with theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to unpack complex conflicts. Students learn to identify and explain various elements of a conflict situation and are introduced to a range of theories, frameworks and models that assist with the critical analysis of complex conflicts. Students will practice conducting conflict analysis on a range of real life conflict scenarios to develop a deeper understanding of the elements of conflict and the conflict analysis process. The subject also provides a brief introduction to a range of strategies that can be used to intervene in and manage conflict.

Learning Outcomes

• synthesize complex conflict and related theories and standards for professional practice in CMR
• critically analyse a range of complex conflicts and conflict management systems
• provide general advice to assist individuals, groups and organisations to constructively manage conflict
• effectively communicate with people in conflict (such as personal, group, organisational or cross-cultural conflict)
• autonomously reflect on and assess their own capabilities and performance and make use of feedback as appropriate, to support personal and professional development

Special Assessment Requirements

Three day workshop: 20-22 March 2020. Compulsory pre-reading required prior to attending workshop. This subject is taught primarily online through LearnJCU and students need to participate online throughout the whole study period. Students must engage in online learning from the first week of the study period and throughout the entire study period.
