Subject Description

    While the law and sport, at one time, rarely interacted, the growth of the business of sport has seen sports law grow into a distinct and important area of law. Decided cases have also stated that Australian sport is part of a wider entertainment industry. This subject therefore involves examining what areas of law apply to the sport and entertainment industries, and how they apply.

Learning Outcomes

  • explain and apply common law and statutory principles to factual scenarios set in the sports and entertainment industry
  • analyse and apply the legal requirements in the context of risk management in the sports and entertainment industry
  • conduct legal research and analyse relevant primary and secondary sources

Subject Assessment

  • Invigilated > End of semester exam - (60%)
  • Non-Invigilated > Assignments - (30%)
  • Presentation or Case Note - (10%)
